WHAT LIES WITHIN?

What lies behind us, and what lies before us are small matters compared to what lies within us.

Ralph Waldo Emerson

We are often too focused with what lies in front of us, or what lies behind us. Focussed upon dreams and goals. Upon possible problems that await us. Upon current issues that perplex us. We focus upon our past… the ups and downs of our present, but more often than not, the downs.

We become obsessed with our failings, our mistakes, our missed opportunities. Our personal weaknesses. We are obsessed with the wrong things! The relationship that folded. The stab in the back from so-called friends. The betrayal of family, or colleagues. The opinion of others.

As Emerson says, these are small matters compared with what lies within us. We would do well to focus on weightier matters pertaining to our lives. The possibilities. The potential. The dreams of our heart. So let me ask you today – what lies within?

What lies within YOU?

When last have you taken an inventory? Now, whether this is something you have done in the past, or done fairly recently, why not stop and consider this question today. What lies within?

It would be quite natural with the reality of the pandemic that has governed our lives and communities and nations over the past two years, to feel depressed, or despondent or beaten by life’s vicissitudes. It would be natural to have lying within you gnawing disappointments, or overwhelming fears regarding your future, your health, even your loved ones.

However, dear child of God, I’d like to encourage you today to consider your supernatural possibilities. You have lying within you the person of the Holy Spirit. The Amplified version of the Bible elaborates about the function He plays in our lives. He is our Comforter, Counsellor, Advocate, Intercessor, Strength and Standby.

So, what lies within?

For a start, God’s ordained purpose for your life. God’s resources for living and enjoying an abundant life. God’s ability to export your day-to-day experiences onto His paths of peace, enabling you to emerge as a victorious overcomer.

There are great possibilities within!

Again, let us ask ourselves, what lies within?

  • Hope for our future.
  • Faith for the things we desire and dream about.
  • The ability to be whom God has called us to be.
  • The courage and confidence to be godly, purpose-driven achievers.

An achiever who pursues the will and purpose of God for their life. An achiever who is concerned about the same things God cares about. For example, the salvation of lost souls. The encouragement and equipping of the Body of Christ. The celebration of Jesus, and the conforming of our lives to His image. The reverential respect and recognition of our Father God’s awesome being.

Of course, there will be the not-so-good aspects of our hearts and lives, which also lie within. They lie within our thoughts and imagination. They lie within our subconscious. They lie within our innermost being. Cares. Insecurities. Negative memories. Regrets. Sinful attitudes. They lie within, and we can’t just pretend they don’t exist. In fact, we do ourselves no favour by pretending otherwise.

So go ahead. Examine them.

But don’t cosset them. Don’t obsess about them. Don’t dissect them. Don’t despair over them. And certainly don’t allow yourself to become immobilised by them.

But Lady Cee, since they lie within me, what should I do with them? What should I do about them?

Here’s what.

Acknowledge and review them!

From a different perspective. A perspective that has been formed by the Word of God, and purged by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Cast them!

Cast them upon the capable shoulders of your Lord and Saviour. Submit them to the one who knows you through and through, yet loves you regardless.

Pray about them!

Follow King David’s example of personal honesty and take a leaf out of the Apostle Paul’s book with regard to humility.

Conquer them!

Not in your own strength, but in the power and might of the One who has both called and equipped you, and is able to deliver you.

Dear friend, look again.

Look again at the possibilities that lie within. Articles, books, blog posts, businesses, songs, prophecies, visionary leadership, creative abilities, income-producing ideas, a plethora of God-glorifying productivity.

So, challenge yourself today dear reader, and look within.

Best wishes,

Carol (aka Lady Cee)

It’s great to see you blogging again Aunty C! Although I must admit that I’ve not known what happend to my access to previous blogs. Anyways, enough about that, let me get back to commenting on your recent blog.

What a powerful read! Each paragraph is packed with a dynamic punch of hope, and optimism, confidence. Who could not possibly feel encouraged when reading your post? Just a rhetorical question really. Anyone that reads your blog should feel encouraged. I certainly do, as I know that life can throw some us some curveballs that we just cannot fathom or that threatens to steal our peace!

Keep writing and inspiring. I shall read your blog again Aunty. A Great piece of writing!
