Monday Blues?

MOTIVATIONAL MONDAY

Motivational Quote:

So. Monday. We meet again. We will never be friends – but maybe we can move past our mutual enmity toward a more-positive partnership.

(Julio Alexi Genao)

Is that how you feel today? Is that how you normally feel about Mondays?

I never used to know anything about “Monday blues” until I started working in a hostile environment. Before then, Monday to me was just another day of the week, just the first day of my working week.

I’m not sure whether I became influenced by the world’s thinking, or whether dread of going into work after I became the target of pack bullying, had anything to do with it, but I began to suffer from Monday blues (even Sunday blues to be honest), knowing the next day and throughout that week, I’d probably be facing another bout of psychological abuse.

I’m happy to say that “Monday blues” are no longer a feature of my life. But that does not mean I don’t sympathise with anyone who suffers from this.

As I thought about what I wanted to share for this month’s ‘Motivational Monday’ post, and as I sought direction from the Holy Spirit regarding what I should write about, I found myself wanting to encourage readers for whom the shoe fits, to think differently, to see positively, to dictate how they wanted their Mondays to be, rather than succumb to how Mondays made them feel.

I found I wanted to encourage my readers to view Mondays from now on, as a new, or a fresh opportunity to shape (or re-shape) themselves into purpose-driven achievers.

Now, if you have followed my blog from the beginning, you will be aware that I take my definition of a purpose-driven achiever from Rick Warren, author of The Purpose Driven Life.

Have you read it?

If not, I urge you to make it one of your goals this year. And I would also urge you to not only read (asap!) but seek to apply its God-principles, making these your chief aim as you pursue success with your goals and dreams, and in your business/career, your relationships, and your walk with God.

But what has desiring to be a purpose-driven achiever got to do with Mondays… with changing my attitude towards Mondays?

It has everything to do with it!

Because Monday to Friday, or Monday to Saturday, or however your working week is comprised, can sometimes be placed (whether consciously or subconsciously), in a different category when it comes to our spirituality.

Dealing with abusive or back-stabbing colleagues, cantankerous clients, difficult bosses, and your own self-absorbing problems, can become an excuse to compromise. After all, your pastor, home-group leader and fellow-believers cannot see, cannot know, how you choose to behave and whether this is at odds with your professed faith. But dear friend, God sees!

You may ask, what compromises?

Well, my reply to you is as follows:

The temptation to jump on the current office bandwagon… to lie, gossip, go with the flow, take shortcuts, think-speak-and act like your secular colleagues and friends, even deny Christ by deliberately forsaking Christian principles.

As purpose-driven believers and achievers, we should aspire to act differently, behave better.

  • Each Monday presents an opportunity to realise that your working life cannot be separated from your spiritual life.
  • Each Monday presents another opportunity to adjust your attitude to God’s way of thinking when it comes to your work situation.
  • Each Monday presents a new challenge to present yourself as an exemplary worker in the context of your job or business environment.
  • Each Monday presents a unique opportunity to be a leader, not a follower… an encourager, not a saboteur… a victorious overcomer, not a hopeless, defeated victim.
  • Each Monday presents a fresh opportunity for you to be aware that God is watching, and the seeds you sow now will be the harvest you eventually reap.

So, today dear friend, what will you choose to do?

  • Whom will you choose to be?
  • Whose example will you decide to follow?
  • Whose plans and purpose will you allow to take precedence in your life – God’s or Satan’s?

Believe me there is no middle ground!

My dear friend, beginning with this Monday, may I encourage you to allow this week, this month, this year, to be a period of Monday blessings and breakthroughs, rather than another case of Monday blues!

With much love,

Carol
