Are you committed to unearthing your potential?

Our potential is the dormant ability, reserved power, untapped strength and unused success God designed into each of us.
(Myles Munroe)

My dear friend, welcome to a brand new month, which gives me another opportunity to encourage myself and my readers, with regards to pursuing our destiny and endeavouring to walk in life as a purpose-driven achiever.

Thank you all for granting me the pleasure of your company. And thank you all for taking your valuable time to read my content, and hear my heart for you as a beloved child of God, or other interested party.

Today, I’d like to focus on potential. I’ve been re-reading Myles Munroe’s book Understanding Your Potential, which has reignited a desire within me to maximise my own potential.

The thing that really struck my heart as I began to read, is Munroe’s assertion that many people go to their graves carrying (and therefore burying) their potential with them. I don’t want that to be my story! How about you?

Now, at the back of Munroe’s book, part of the blurb reads like this:

UNDERSTANDING YOUR POTENTIAL WILL ENABLE YOU TO…

  • Learn to rise above the opinions of others
  • Discover the untapped wealth of your potential ability and rise above your past experiences to unearth hidden treasure within
  • Explore the principle keys to realizing, exposing and maximizing your true capacity, reaching beyond the expectations of others

Do you see yourself as someone with great potential? And are you seeking to maximise that potential?

Perhaps you’ve been struggling with a similar mind-set to that of Gideon in the Bible, whom when the Lord addressed him as a ‘mighty man of valor!’ he just could not accept that the Lord was speaking to, and about him.

Gideon could not see his potential. He saw himself within the framework of a negative mind-set—as someone from the weakest clan in Israel, and the least member in his family (see Judges 6:15).

Now, at the time when the Lord had addressed him, Gideon was hiding away in a winepress threshing wheat, so that his activity wouldn’t come to the attention of the Midianites, who had been oppressing and impoverishing the Children of Israel. His response to the Lord reveals Gideon was unable to see past the current difficulties of his life.

I’ve been there, and I’ve no doubt dear reader that at some point you’ve been there too. Perhaps you are even in that situation right now. If so, here’s an encouraging post I’ve written that could help you to negotiate your way past that scenario. Click here.

Meanwhile, is there somebody, or a group of people in your life, whom the Enemy is using to try and discourage and oppress you? If so, like Gideon, are you unduly focussed upon what they are doing? Are your thoughts and activities geared only towards surviving? Have you given up all hope of ever thriving?

Dear reader, allow me to encourage you today. You have the potential within you, to not only survive, but to thrive!

As a single mother on government assistance, Lisa Nichols, discovered her potential. Now she is a best-selling author and transformation guru.

Following the Lord’s encouraging input, Gideon was able to unearth his hidden potential, transforming his timid personality to that of a courageous leader and triumphant warrior.

Dear friend, where are you right now in terms of your perceived capabilities? As a purpose-driven believer aspiring to achieve your dreams and seeking to fulfil your destiny, is this where you would like to be?

If you are not satisfied with where you are now, what steps are you planning to take, to get where you truly desire to be… to be where God has destined you to be?

Myles Munroe advises that:

Potential must be exercised to be fulfilled. […] God has given you potential. Unless you make demands on it, you will die with it. Unless you venture to try things you’ve never done before, you’ll never experience the wealth that lives within you.

Myles Munroe

Let me remind you once again of Munroe’s concern about people going to their grave with untapped potential.

In light of this disturbing reality, my challenge to you this month is this: where will your potential take you by this time next year?

Wishing you a wonderful week!

Best wishes,

Carol E. Hind – Author, Blogger and Purpose-driven Achiever
