Have you heard that African proverb: It takes a village to raise a child?
Using that concept of helping a child to grow and develop their potential through the support of extended family and/or community, I’d like to apply it to you and to myself, as we seek to live productive lives as purpose-driven believers and dream-achievers.
What will it take for you and me to fulfil the purpose of God in our lives?
What will it take for you and me to achieve the dreams and desires that God has placed within our hearts?
Apart from the benevolence and protection of our Father God, the intercessory prayers of Jesus our Lord and the assistance of the Holy Spirit, we need each other.
And so I say:
It takes a spiritual buddy, a coach or mentor, a group of like-minded people, a supportive network, to raise a purpose-driven achiever.
Listen to what the Bible has to say on this matter:
As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another
(Proverbs 27:18 NIV).
Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their work:
If one falls down, his friend can help him up.
But pity the man who falls and has no-one to help him up! (Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 NIV)
Even the individual members of the Godhead (Father, Son and Holy Ghost), do not operate as lone rangers and Jesus, whilst he walked upon this earth, gathered to himself a close group of friends and disciples.
So my question to you today dear ones is this: do you have some such person or community in your life? If so are you availing yourself of their help? More importantly, are you giving back? Are you helping someone else in a meaningful way?
I close with this quote from a wise motivational speaker, who has now departed from this world. He said:
If you want to achieve your goals, help others achieve theirs.
PDA friends and followers, have a blessed week!
