At a recent visit to the TED Talks website, I found the following definition of success:
Success can mean: feeling that tingle of excitement about what you do, sticking with what matters through hard times, living a life you can feel proud of in retrospect.
At another website I found the following poem:
Success
by Ralph Waldo Emerson
To laugh often and much
To win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children
To earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends
To appreciate beauty
To find the best in others
To leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch, or a redeemed social condition
To know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived
This is to have succeeded.
And at yet another site, I discovered this unfamiliar quote, which I heartily endorse:
A successful man is one who can lay a firm foundation with the bricks others have thrown at him.
David Brinkley
Purpose-driven believer and dream achiever, what does success mean to you?
Which of the above definitions do you like best?
Do you have a favourite quote re success?
Please share your thoughts in the comment box below. I’d love to hear from you.
Love,
Carol

I associate success with completion – being able to fully accomplish a specific task (no matter how big or small) that God has called me to do.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts. I agree – it is satisfying to actually complete what you’ve started. Even more satisfying when the Lord is involved. 😃

I think success is difficult to quantify… and may be different for each person… but I think once you get to really know who you are and what you want… influenced as little as possible by anything or anyone but what you really truly deeply want.

Hello Caterpillar – thank you so much for contributing to this discussion. I totally agree with you. I believe that each person should decide what success looks like for them personally and then pursue that.
