Reflection: 40 Days – twice!

This month, I am re-reading The Purpose Driven Life by Rick Warren and I’d like to take this opportunity to share with you some of my reflections.

According to Rick Warren, 40 days represents a significant spiritual period in biblical history.

Now if you are familiar with the Bible then you are probably aware of the accounts of Moses, who spent two back-to-back periods of 40-days with God upon a mountain top, resulting in him developing such an intimate relationship with God that the great “I AM” later referred to Moses as his friend.

But what really impresses me about these 40-day stints of Moses, is that having spent this amount of time in God’s presence, his face so shone with the light of God that he had to put a veil over his face whenever he had occasion to speak to, or deal with the Children of Israel.

As a young babe in Christ, after reading about the impact of Moses’ encounter with God, I coveted this quality of relationship, this tangible evidence of intimacy with and closeness to God.

However, as an older Christian, I have to admit I’ve not achieved anywhere near this effect so far. In fact, I’d even forgotten about this secret desire!

Which leads me to wonder: are there any aspects of my life which clearly shine forth in strong declaration of my relationship with God? At this present time – nothing particular springs to mind!

Purpose-driven believer and dream-achiever, what about you? Have you ever followed through with something for 40 consecutive days? What was the result?

Do please share with us in the comment box below. I’d love to hear from you.

Hi friends and followers,

I wanted to share this post with you, along with a comment response I tried to leave at Stephen’s site several times without success!

BTW Stephen if you happen to be reading this please note I dropped by your place to thank you for following my 2 blogs (A Purpose-driven achiever and Women of Warfare!). Very much appreciated and I hope you will find my posts a source of ongoing blessing and inspiration.

I have never heard of Speak Kind Words Saturday, so from just visiting you today I’ve learned something new.
Of course I agree with you that as Christians, as human beings shouldn’t we be speaking kind words to everyone, everyday? However, as Christians and as human-beings, if we are honest, whether deliberately or unintentionally, we know that we do not!
I think when we have a day that focuses our behaviour in a direct and positive way, it becomes a reminder and a challenge to us to look at our lives and adjust them accordingly if need be and hopefully use the day as a launching pad for being more consistent every day.
Just a thought!

My thinking corner….

Hello all,

I’m so pleased to be bringing a new feature to this site, one which I believe is in keeping with this blog’s ethos and which I hope will be a further source of inspiration, or motivation.

This is a weekly challenge (every Tuesday) hosted by Jacqueline Oby-Ikocha (please check out her blog). The idea is to share snippets of positive thoughts to encourage others. Why not take a leaf out of Jacqueline’s book and spend just 5-10 mins detoxifying your mind by filling it with precious nuggets of positive thoughts. If you’d like to join in don’t hesitate to visit Jacqueline’s Thinking Corner (see side bar section under Inspiration-Motivation) at: https://acookingpotandtwistedtales.com.

And now without further ado, here are my three thoughts for this week, which wing their way towards you direct from my thinking corner on a secluded beach!
