Sharing and Savouring Secrets of Success…

THEME WORD:

VISUALISATION:

Visualisation can be a powerful aid in overcoming self-limiting habits, such as procrastination, and in taking the actions necessary to achieve your goals.

Hal Elrod/Steve Scott – The Miracle Morning for Writers

Until recently, I had not fully appreciated what a powerful role the act of visualisation could play in one’s pursuit of success.

Apparently Tiger Woods, Anthony Robbins, Will Smith and many successful athletes and entrepreneurs use this tool to enhance their performance, or mentally rehearse desired outcomes.

You may even have heard about the actor Jim Carrey who reportedly wrote himself a 10 million dollar cheque as payment for his acting services and regularly visualised it becoming a reality. Approximately 8 years later, he earned just such a cheque for his role in Dumb and Dumber!

For those like me who wonder whether there is a biblical precedence for this, let me direct you to Genesis 11:1-9 where you can read about the Tower of Babel and where God himself said: …now nothing they have imagined they can do will be impossible for them (v6).

In his book, The Miracle Morning – The 6 Habits That Will Transform Your Life, Hal Elrod explains:

Visualisation is the process of imagining exactly what you want to achieve or attain, and then mentally rehearsing what you’ll need to do to achieve or attain it.

And Steve Scott in his book, The Miracle Morning for Writers, suggests that combining affirmations with visualisation will:

…turbocharge the programming of your subconscious mind for success.

I don’t know about you but I have wasted many years visualising what I didn’t want in my life. I visualised rejection, opposition and sabotage. My experiences in life led to me having a negative mind-set, and as I re-played the negative scenarios experienced and used my imagination to anticipate further rejection and opposition, guess what? My imagination worked against me and brought the very things I didn’t want into my life.

Not sure what to make of all this? Don’t just take my word for it. Let’s have a look at what the Bible has to say on the subject:

For the thing I greatly feared has come upon me,

And what I dreaded has happened to me (Job 3:25 NKJV).

Now let me ask you dear reader, how do you think fear works? How do you think fear is expressed? In our imagination. With our thoughts and words.

Well, faith works in exactly the same way. We are told that:

…faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen (Hebrews 11:1)

In other words, faith is positive visualisation (evidence) of the things you want to (or hope will) happen.

And so my dear friend, I have a faith challenge for you.

I challenge you to use the above image as a creative visualisation tool. I challenge you to regularly review this image in connection with one of your main goals or a chief aspiration for this year.

Consider what needs to be done in order for you to achieve your dream. Consider whom you need to be as a person in order to accomplish that desire. Then visualise yourself as the individual in this picture doing whatever it takes to move from the person you were in 2017 to the person you desire to be or are aiming to be in 2018.

As you regularly review this image, I am sure certain symbolic suggestions will come to mind that relate to you personally. Write these impressions down so you don’t forget and set time aside to:

  • regularly recall and affirm those thoughts
  • visualise your desired future
  • rehearse your journey of success.

And so that there’s no room for the Enemy of our souls to ride in with deception, ask the Holy Spirit for divine protection over your mind and ask him to take control of your visualisation sessions. Ask him to show you God’s perfect will for your life and to direct your thoughts and imagination accordingly. Ask him to help you gird up the loins of your mind whenever you begin to think contrary to God’s Word and will. Ask him to help you visualise yourself becoming the person God has called you to be, or whom you need to be, in order to experience the success you desire in 2018.

If creative visualisation is a new concept to you, ask the Holy Spirit to help you use your imagination in a way that develops and enhances your potential, not undermine it. Ask him to help you see yourself accomplishing your goals and fulfilling your destiny.

Purpose-driven believer and dream-achiever, I wish you an abundantly blessed and productive month.
