MOTIVATION:

Motivation involves the biological, emotional, social and cognitive forces that activate behavior. In everyday usage, the term motivation is frequently used to describe why a person does something.

Hi dear reader!

It’s March already, so I thought I’d check how things are going with you all regarding your goals, dreams and endeavours as purpose-driven believers and/or dream-achievers. So how are you getting on?

If you are anything like me, you have perhaps faltered along the way. If so, don’t be disheartened, don’t feel condemned and most importantly, don’t give up! If you haven’t yet started you’ve still got 10 months, or you can begin your year from March 2016 to February 2017, or for 12 months from whatever month you decide to begin! The choice is yours – just get started.

I’ve recently been thinking about motivation, particularly self-motivation and here’s what I discovered:

There are 3 elements to self-motivation (activation, persistence, focus)

  • ACTIVATION – Have you got a dream or a goal? Have you planned, or have you begun to plan how you will accomplish that goal or realise that dream? Have you started on whatever task you need to do, which will take you from A to B and so on until you reach Z?

  • PERSISTENCE – Have you made up your mind to continue on your dream pathway despite any difficulties you may encounter, or discouragement you may face?

  • FOCUS – Are you concentrating your energies and focusing your attention upon your intended goal?

Perhaps you find yourself lacking in motivation. If you can’t put your finger on why that is, check out this post for possible answers: (6 reasons why we lack motivation).

Finally, remember as Christians we face an ongoing onslaught from our Enemy designed to undermine our faith, break our focus and bring discouragement. It’s too easy when faced by obstacles or opposition, to throw in the towel. Listen to what this writer has to say on the subject:

The best antidote to discouragement is motivation. A person who is both personally and permanently motivated doesn’t give up easily!

(Barry Chant – author and founder of Tabor College, Australia)

So, purpose-driven believers and dream-achievers, be encouraged. Go forth and motivate thyself!
