I wrote the following journal extract exactly one year ago (20 January 2018).

Dear reader, at whatever stage of your journey as a purpose-driven achiever you now find yourself, I do hope you can take something away from this post that is useful to you.

The Daily Post – Daily Word Prompt: VIABLE

Goals. Plans. Achievement. Success.

How can I negotiate my way towards the fulfilment of my dreams?

Experts say I need to have goals. I need to have those goals written down. I need to review them regularly. I need to make a plan in order to execute those goals. I need to discipline myself in order to execute and when I have done all this, I will enjoy the fruit of my hard labour. I will have achieved my dream. I will have found my way towards success. Easy right?

Not so!

Goals need to be realistic. Plans need to be viable. And in order to execute, I need to be determined. Am I hungry enough?

Let’s back track. Goals need to be realistic.

Suppose I want to be a writer but I’m currently only putting pen to paper, or fingers to keyboard once-in-a-blue-moon? No point having a goal to write a best seller. No point in planning to write 5000 words every day. I need to do something about my lack of motivation and self-discpline. First things first!

If we make unrealistic goals then we are setting ourselves up for failure. We are entertaining false expectations. Our dream then is not viable. The word comes from the Latin vita which means life. I like that concept. Life gives the idea and promise of fulfilment. Life gives the idea of growth and development. Life gives the idea of continuity.

A plant cannot grow unless it is planted in the right conditions. Are my dream seeds planted in the right conditions? Can those dream seeds survive? Will they flourish? Will they grow?

In the natural sense, seeds need to be planted into soil. And depending upon the type of seeds they need the right soil. Then that soil needs to be regularly watered. They require sunshine and rain. Yes, both are required for the life, the potential within those seeds, to be released.

Dear reader the above entry in my journal ends as above. However, I am happy to say that this was not the end of the story.

As someone who dreamed of being a writer, yet failed to write regularly, my dreams were doomed. However, I did not want this unviable situation to continue. I chose to begin writing regularly and to pursue goals relating to my dream. It didn’t happen overnight and my journey towards becoming an author, certainly wasn’t easy but through hard work and persistence, I managed to achieve a long-standing dream.

If you are still on the road to achievement of a particular aspiration, don’t give up. If you’ve met with obstacles on the pathway, please don’t allow disappointment or frustration to distract or defeat you.

As the saying goes: whilst there’s life, there’s hope!

So, keep sowing your dream seeds, keep tending the soil and with faith and patience, the potential of your dreams will eventually materialise.

I am testimony to that fact!

With best wishes,

Carol (aka Lady Cee)

  1. Congratulations on reaching your dream. Ghostwriters do an amazing job helping people who don’t know how to write create bestsellers. I’m guessing if someone didn’t know how to read they wouldn’t be reading a blog, but I still want to share that tidbit because one of the most common misconceptions about best sellers is that they are all written by the person whose name is on the cover. Ghostwriters help people put into words what they don’t have the time or skills to do themselves. Sometimes people film videos or do interviews and from that a book is created. BUT your point is well taken about how you have to take action toward your dreams! ~Shell

    1. Very good point Shell Vera. I’ve been amazed to learn about some “authors” who have not written any books themselves. I guess my example was not thought through properly! 😊

      1. You were fine. I just felt it was important to add that piece of knowledge since there are some people who could use it. There is a reason I stopped ghostwriting for folks who don’t write at least half their books themsleves, Carol. I want to be sure people can proudly say they are “authors” and mean it.
