This month, I am re-reading The Purpose Driven Life by Rick Warren and I’d like to take this opportunity to share with you some of my reflections.
According to Rick Warren, 40 days represents a significant spiritual period in biblical history.
Now if you are familiar with the Bible then you are probably aware of the accounts of Moses, who spent two back-to-back periods of 40-days with God upon a mountain top, resulting in him developing such an intimate relationship with God that the great “I AM” later referred to Moses as his friend.
But what really impresses me about these 40-day stints of Moses, is that having spent this amount of time in God’s presence, his face so shone with the light of God that he had to put a veil over his face whenever he had occasion to speak to, or deal with the Children of Israel.
As a young babe in Christ, after reading about the impact of Moses’ encounter with God, I coveted this quality of relationship, this tangible evidence of intimacy with and closeness to God.
However, as an older Christian, I have to admit I’ve not achieved anywhere near this effect so far. In fact, I’d even forgotten about this secret desire!
Which leads me to wonder: are there any aspects of my life which clearly shine forth in strong declaration of my relationship with God? At this present time – nothing particular springs to mind!
Purpose-driven believer and dream-achiever, what about you? Have you ever followed through with something for 40 consecutive days? What was the result?
Do please share with us in the comment box below. I’d love to hear from you.
