Hello fellow-bloggers and visiting friends, thank you so much for dropping by.
Today I’d like to share some thoughts about endurance.
If you’ve been following me for any length of time you’ll be aware that this blog exists to encourage myself and my followers to walk as purpose-driven believers, to pursue our calling, purpose and God-inspired dreams.
You will be aware that I am an advocate for pursuing success on your terms (since there’s no one-size-fits-all template!). And for those of you who are busy doing just that, I’m sure you’ve realised that endurance, persistence, stick-to-it-ness is required.
Do I hear you groan?
I know! 😦
Most people hate the word, the very idea of endurance. It raises within my mind the spectre of pain, or frustration, obstacles and trials.
But you know, it’s as you face battles (whether mental, emotional, physical, or spiritual), it is as you face these battles and determine in your heart not to allow them to stop you pursuing your dreams—but use them to develop spiritual stamina, use them to strengthen your resolve, use them to make you battle resilient, courageous and uncompromising—that you learn the secret of endurance and eventually reap the rewards of persistence.
During my appointment with God this morning (aka devotional time), I read the Bible text James 5:11. It spoke of those who endured being counted as blessed. Think about that a moment. It certainly set me thinking. We tend to think of those who have achieved, who have innovated, who are celebrated, who possess riches and the accompanying evidences of success, as blessed.
But we don’t consider where deprivation, hostility, injustice, homelessness, facing personal demons, overcoming opposition or personal weaknesses, may fit into that picture of success.
Dear readers, it comes before! It comes during pursuit of our dreams. And it is only those that persist, that endure until the bitter end, who will win the crown of success.
Before closing, let me share with you a few points from today’s devotional reading, which I hope will inspire and motivate you:
- You don’t have to be great to start, but you have to start to be great
- The first two letters in the word goal are ‘go’
- You’ll never be what you ought to be, until you’re doing what you ought to be doing
- If you’re having trouble thinking outside the box, it’s time to get out of the box.
