As many of you will be gathering with loved ones this week to celebrate thanksgiving, my thoughts turn to the subject of gratitude.

Experts say that having a thankful attitude in life improves our health, enables us to be more resilient when troubles assail us, and can even raise our level of contentment.

Maintaining an attitude of gratitude heightens awareness of, and appreciation for the positive aspects of our lives.

So, instead of succumbing to stress over unfavourable conditions (which will only have a detrimental impact on our emotional and mental well-being), we can choose instead to focus on, and express thanks for, the good things in our lives.

The more we engage with life from a grateful perspective, the more we can enjoy a stable, self-disciplined frame of mind and the happier we will become.

The following are quotes I hope will encourage you to pursue thankfulness as a lifestyle, rather than an occasional or seasonal exercise.

Gratitude bestows reverence, allowing us to encounter everyday epiphanies, those transcendent moments of awe that change forever how we experience life and the world.

John Milton

“Let gratitude be the pillow upon which you kneel to say your nightly prayer. And let faith be the bridge you build to overcome evil and welcome good.”

Maya Angelou

“Be grateful for what you already have while you pursue your goals. If you aren’t grateful for what you already have, what makes you think you would be happy with more.”

Roy T. Bennett

Feeling gratitude and not expressing it is like wrapping a present and not giving it.

William Arthur Ward

As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them.

John F. Kennedy

“Forget yesterday – it has already forgotten you. Don’t sweat tomorrow – you haven’t even met. Instead, open your eyes and your heart to a truly precious gift – today.”

Steve Maraboli

Hem your blessings with thankfulness so they don’t unravel.
