Even though I didn’t know them personally, there have been several celebrities whose deaths have touched my heart. People like Michael Jackson, or the recently deceased Prince, who were the subject of untimely deaths. People like David Bowie and Victoria Wood, whose lives were snuffed out by terminal disease.
These individuals were talented and successful and shared their gifts with the world. Many of us enjoyed their songs, their musical or comic abilities. When they died, their gift died along with them.
However, at least we have the legacy of previously produced songs, scripts and sketches, which they have left behind. At least we can still recall, enjoy and celebrate their achievements.
Which set me thinking…
If I, or you were to leave this world unexpectedly, will we have left behind us a good and lasting legacy? Will we have contributed wholeheartedly of our abilities, gifts and talents?
I pray that the example of those whose writings, films, songs and innovations have brought pleasure and enrichment to our lives, will motivate us to develop and use our own gifts for God’s glory.
Purpose-driven believers and dream-achievers, let’s not go to the grave with our dreams unrealised, our gifts hidden under the bushel of procrastination, our talents buried under excuses, slothfulness or disillusionment. Let’s make every effort to glorify Christ, fulfil our God-given destinies and become dream-achievers.
Trust yourself. Create the kind of self that you will be happy to live with all your life. Make the most of yourself by fanning the tiny, inner sparks of possibility into flames of achievement.
