What Is Your Life Metaphor?

MOTIVATIONAL MONDAY

————————————————————————————————————

Metaphor:

  • An expression in which the person, action or thing referred to is described as if it really were what it merely resembles (Chambers 21st Century Dictionary)

 ————————————————————————————————————

Life is a:

  • battle
  • burden
  • bowl of cherries
  • challenge
  • circus
  • merry-go-round
  • journey
  • struggle
  • symphony
  • movie
  • mystery
  • rose garden

The above statements are all metaphors which describe how people see the world, or see their lives.

In his book, Notebook From A Friend – A Quick and Simple Guide to Taking Charge of Your Life, Anthony Robbins says the following:

Behind every metaphor is a system of beliefs. When you choose a metaphor to describe your life, or your situation, you choose the beliefs it supports too. This is why you want to be careful about the way you describe your world—to yourself or to anyone else.

SELF SCRUTINY:

What metaphor do you use to describe your life? Given Robbins’ statement above, will you stick with that image, or change it? Please share your response in the comments below.
